After a hiatus she returns and gives another stab at Genealogy

Back again, many years later. Still fascinated by family history and have been playing with it on and mainly off. During the past few years, I have made a little progress and turned up some amazing discoveries. All will be revealed in time. I am thinking 2018 may be the year where I stick to it and collect more answers to my questions. Some of the questions I want to uncover are:

What happened to my maternal great-grandfather's family? We know George Miller was born in Great Britain and ended up in Louisiana in 1883. He was 36 when he married Amanda Buxton. He was an infant when he arrived, so where was he for the first 30 or so years of his life?

I also am intrigued by Joseph Foster, my paternal grandfather. He was born in Havanna, Cuba. He arrived on April 17, 1856 in New Orleans. In 1860, Joseph's family had moved to Mobile, Alabama and another brother, James, was born in 1863. Joseph's father served briefly in the Confederate Army. Where in England were the Fosters from? What did they do in Cuba? Why did they leave? What happened to Joseph's parents? They are in the 1860 census, but not the1870. My quest...

One of my New Year's resolutions is to resolve these questions and work on organization and documentation. I have the tools and just need to make the time. I am participating in Amy Johnson Crow's 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks so I am committing to adding to my research and reporting the results weekly in 2018.
